Meet the Candidates in Upcoming 2023 SPOA Board Elections

Updated: Jun 5, 2023

Who do you want to see leading our trade association?

A number of seats are coming up for election on SPOA's Governing and Executive Boards.

As a reminder, every company member of SPOA is allowed one person to represent their company and vote annually on board membership. Voting will take place in July 2023, in person at SPOA's 2023 International Conference on School Photography & Yearbooks. We will have a room dedicated to voting and a list of all companies eligible to vote.

Governing Board At-Large Seats

The Governing Board's two at-large seats, currently held by Michael Belland and Mike Harris, are coming up for election. Members of the Governing Board help guide the overall direction of our trade organization. The board's seats have two-year terms, with a two-term maximum per person unless elected by their peers to become an officer.

Executive Board Seats

Seven seats are coming up for election on the Executive Board! Members of the Executive Board do a lot of the practical work of implementing SPOA's mission, often as the head of committees related to their chairs. The board's seats have two-year terms, with a two-term maximum per person, unless elected by their peers to become an officer.

Want to learn more about their responsibility?

SPOA has a set of bylaws that help guide the organization, its members, and its staff through the challenges and complexities of supporting and managing a 501c6 Trade Association Nonprofit. To learn more and understand the setup of the organization please visit SPOA Bylaws.

How the Election Will Work

Board candidates with the highest number of votes will be the candidates elected and inducted as new board members. SPOA is using a software program that will be pre-loaded with each company member as an applicable vote and will have a dedicated voting room and an unbiased staff member to manage the verification of members voting. On Tuesday, July 11th, when voting has concluded, all current SPOA officers, both Governing Board and Executive Board, will report to the Hyatt Board Room where the contracted staff member will open the final tallies from the software and reveal the winners of each election.

The winning candidates will be announced on Thursday afternoon, July 14th, during the general session lunch, and a SPOA board transition and induction ceremony will take place.

Thank you!

Each of you has played a vital role in growing and advancing the mission of SPOA and you have each been incredible assets to our industry!
