SPOA + Sony Volume EDU is an educational program designed to bring professional photography education directly to the next generation of photographers. The program is a collaboration between School Photographers of America and Sony, giving students hands-on exposure to photography while introducing them to the skills, technology, and career opportunities within the professional photography industry.

The program brings industry professionals, educators, and Sony equipment into college-level photography programs for an immersive learning experience. Students get the opportunity to learn beyond the classroom through demonstrations, hands-on instruction, and real-world photography techniques, and explore the many career opportunities available within the photography industry.

A key goal of Volume EDU is to introduce students to school photography as a legitimate and rewarding career path. Many photography students may not realize that school photography can offer a creative, sustainable career beyond traditional portrait, wedding, or commercial photography. By bringing professional school photographers into the classroom, students can see firsthand what a career in the volume photography industry looks like and the opportunities it can provide.

What the program focuses on:

  • Hands-on photography education

  • Connecting students with professional photographers

  • Real-world industry knowledge and career insights

  • Exposure to Sony camera technology and equipment

  • Building technical and creative photography skills

  • Creating connections between education and the professional photography industry

The bigger purpose

The goal isn't simply to teach students how to use a camera. SPOA + Sony Volume EDU is about helping prepare the next generation of photographers for a career in the industry by giving them access to professional knowledge, equipment, and people who are actively working in the field.

SPOA and Sony have already brought the program to colleges including Daytona State College in Florida and Macomb Community College in Michigan, creating opportunities for students to learn directly from industry professionals.
